Learn more about low-e glass & why it's a great window glass option

Low-E Glass for window glass

Low emissivity glass, or low-e glass, is a heat-reflective type of glass that minimizes the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that can pass through. With a thin metallic oxide coating, low-e glass helps to prevent air (heat or air conditioning) from escaping the home as well as preventing ultraviolet light that tends to fade interior materials from coming in.

When heat tries to escape through windows during the winter, low-e glass will reflect the heat back into the house or building and in the summer help to keep the cool air inside.

Here are some of the reasons low-e glass could be helpful for your home or building:

Saving money

Your heating and cooling bills will be reduced as a result of heat not being able to come in or out of the house. It will be easier to maintain the temperature in your house; therefore, you won’t need to use as much heat or A/C.

Less cleaning

While low-e glass isn’t self-cleaning, the clear coating on the outside helps reduce the amount of dirt and smudges that the glass would get otherwise, leaving you cleaning the windows less.

The coating won’t scratch off

The transparent layer is added in between the pieces of glass leaving little to no opportunity for it to be scratched off. This means it should last for many years.

Protects against UVA and UVB

Low-e glass protects against 95% of the sun’s rays. Furniture and flooring by windows that would normally fade due to the sun’s rays will now be protected against this, increasing the length of time that they look like new! Similarly, if you are sitting by a window, you don’t have to worry about your skin being exposed to the sun because it is being protected by the low-e windows.

From comfort year-round in your home or office, to becoming more energy efficient, to increasing the longevity of your furniture and flooring, low-e glass is changing the glass window industry.
