Regularly Clean Your Windshield
Keeping your windshield clean not only allows you to see better, it also reduces scratching from dirt and grim that collect on your windshield and wipers. Here are a few tips to know the next time you clean your auto glass:
- Clean your auto glass out of direct sunlight. Sunlight causes glass cleaners to evaporate quickly, hastening the drying process and leaving a residue.
- Avoid ammonia based cleaners. In addition to the fumes ammonia gives off, it drys out plastic, rubber and vinyl – parts that are used to keep auto glass in place. Also, ammonia cannot be used on tinted windows. Most household glass cleaners include ammonia. Only use cleaners that state they are “ammonia free”.
- Clean auto glass with fabric designed for glass-cleaning, like microfiber towels.
- When cleaning the back window of a sedan use the backside of your hand to hold the towel in place. This allows you to reach the bottom of the glass easier.
Be sure to clean your wiper blades too, they teld and shortens the life of the wiper blade. Typically have grit and greasy residue on them that smears your windshield.
After cleaning your windshield and wipers, wipe ithem down with white vinegar to help diminish build up of dirt and grime.
