Low emissivity glass, or low-e glass, is a heat-reflective type of glass that minimizes the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that can pass through. With a thin metallic oxide coating, low-e glass helps to prevent air (heat or air conditioning) from escaping the home as well as preventing ultraviolet light that tends to fade interior materials from coming in.
When heat tries to escape through windows during the winter, low-e glass will reflect the heat back into the house or building and in the summer help to keep the cool air inside.
